Now that console gamers have gotten their hands on some of the top early games of the fall – Madden 2013, Borderlands 2, Resident Evil 6 and FIFA 2013 – it might be difficult to fathom making time for anything else. But as most hardcore gamers know, fall is the season that keeps on giving in the console gaming world. Whether you get Internet service information and play online multiplayer, or you just want to try new solo campaigns, these top 5 games look to be the most popular and hottest choices coming out this fall:
Medal of Honor: Warfighter
This edition of EA's storied Medal of Honor series follows up its 2010 revival, which moved the wartime action from the game's traditional World War II setting to the modern-day war in Afghanistan. The sequel's campaign mode features two playable characters and introduces new locations and missions based on several recent events. If you're a Medal of Honor fan or you love modern-day war games, this one is worth a shot.
Assassin's Creed III
One of the most anticipated games of the year hits the shelves at the end of October. The third installment of this legendary saga wraps up the story of Desmond Miles. While the game is based on Desmond's efforts to stop the world from ending in 2012, much of the story is set in 18th century America during the American Revolution through the eyes of a new protagonist – an anti-British revolutionary by the name of Connor Kenway.
Halo 4
It's easy to wonder if the fourth installment of one of the most popular franchises in history can maintain the appeal of the first three. The story is set on the new planet of Requiem and is said to be more exploratory than previous versions, which were primarily all-out shooting sprees. The game has a new developer, but is almost certainly worth trying out if you're a fanatic of Xbox's flagship first-person shooter.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Not much needs to be said here, except that opposed to the 1960s-based Call of Duty: Black Ops, this edition is the first with the COD title to feature a futuristic setting. The twin storylines are set during the 1980s and in 2025, with the latter campaign focusing on a recently developed Cold War between the U.S. and China. And as you'd expect, futuristic weapons and warfare are all a part of the action. Not only that, but the story reportedly changes according to the decisions you make along the way. For first-person shooter fans and devoted COD gamers, this is a can't-miss.
Hitman: Absolution
It's been a while since we've seen a new edition of this action series. So long, in fact, that most of us had PS2 and Xbox consoles when we last played it. In this installment, Agent 47 is on the run in the U.S. after finding himself the scapegoat of a conspiracy which makes him wanted by the police. If you're a longtime fan of the Hitman series, you may be interested in reintroducing yourself with this one.
