The game overview
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world role-playing game set in the Harry Potter universe, where you can create your own witch or wizard and explore the magical world of Hogwarts and beyond. The game is set in the late 1800s, before the events of the books and movies, so you can experience a different era of wizarding history. The game has many positive aspects that make it an immersive and enjoyable experience for fans of the franchise. The graphics are stunning, with detailed environments, realistic lighting, and dynamic weather effects. The gameplay is varied and engaging, with a mix of combat, exploration, puzzles, quests, and choices that affect the story. The game also features a rich lore and a branching narrative that lets players shape their own legacy at Hogwarts. It is rated T for Teen and is available for XBox One, XBox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. This review is from gameplay on the XBox One.
The Good of Hogwarts Legacy
The game offers a lot of freedom and customization for your character. You can choose your Hogwarts house, your wand, your appearance, your skills, and even your morality. You can also craft potions, cast spells, tame fantastic beasts, and discover hidden secrets. The game has a branching storyline that changes depending on your choices and actions.
One of the things I like about the game is the immersive graphics and sound. The game looks stunning on the XBox One, with detailed environments, realistic lighting, and smooth animations. The game also has a great soundtrack that captures the mood and atmosphere of each location. The voice acting is also well-done, with some familiar voices from the movies.
Another thing I like about the game is the gameplay variety and replay value. The game has a lot of content to explore, from main quests to side missions to optional activities. You can also interact with other characters, join clubs, play Quidditch, duel enemies, or just roam around freely. The game has different difficulty levels and modes to suit different preferences and challenges.
My favorite part of the game is exploring the different locations in the wizarding world, such as Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest, and the Ministry of Magic. I like discovering new secrets, creatures, and characters in these places. I also like using different spells and potions to interact with the environment and solve problems.
Hogwarts Legacy Potions
I use a variety of spells and potions depending on the situation. Some of the spells I use are:
- Alohomora: to unlock doors and chests
- Lumos: to light up dark areas
- Wingardium Leviosa: to levitate objects and enemies
- Expelliarmus: to disarm opponents
- Stupefy: to stun enemies
- Protego: to create a shield around myself
- Accio: to summon objects to me
Some of the potions I use are:
- Wiggenweld Potion: to heal myself or others
- Pepperup Potion: to cure colds and increase energy
- Draught of Living Death: to put enemies to sleep
- Polyjuice Potion: to transform into someone else
- Befuddlement Draught: to confuse enemies
I like experimenting with different combinations of spells and potions to see what effects they have.
Hogwarts Legacy Cons
However, there are also some things I don’t like about the game. One of them is the bugs and glitches that sometimes occur. The game has some technical issues that can affect the performance and stability of the game. For example, I encountered some crashes, freezes, clipping errors, and loading problems while playing. These issues can be frustrating and break immersion.
Some of the annoying things about the game are:
- The game can be glitchy at times, such as characters getting stuck in walls, objects disappearing, or quests not triggering properly.
- The game can be repetitive at times, such as having to do the same tasks or fight the same enemies over and over again.
- The game can be frustrating at times, such as having to deal with difficult enemies, puzzles, or choices that have negative consequences.
- The game can be controversial at times, such as having to face issues or opinions that may clash with one’s own beliefs or values.
These are some of the things that may bother some players or critics of the game. However, I see them as minor flaws or challenges that can be overcome or ignored.
The game does have some limitations in terms of customization, such as a lack of diversity in character appearance options or a fixed house assignment based on a personality test. For some, they may feel that these choices do not reflect their true identity or preferences. However, the game also has some features that allow players to customize their character in other ways, such as choosing their name, gender, hairstyle, clothing, wand, and patronus. The game also allows players to make choices that affect their reputation, relationships, and story outcomes. These features may help players feel more connected and invested in their character and their legacy.
One major thing I don’t like about the game is the lack of multiplayer features. The game is only playable in single-player mode offline or online (with no co-op or PvP options). This limits social interaction with other players who might want to share their experiences or collaborate on quests together online.
Hogwarts Legacy is a fun and engaging game for fans of Harry Potter or fantasy RPGs in general. It offers a rich and immersive world to explore with lots of freedom and customization for your character. However it also suffers from some technical issues that need fixing as well as lack multiplayer features that could enhance social gameplay.
